Prepping for a Football Game: Flipping the Field

With football season in full swing, many fans have prepped for the season by joining a fantasy football league. Others might’ve planned parties with friends and family to watch their favorite teams take the field on game days. There’s also a lot of people who make plans for tailgating and enjoy the games live in person. While you may have thought to plan ahead on what you’re going to bring to your friend’s house for the big game, have you ever thought of all of the planning and prepping that goes into getting the field and stadium ready for game day?

There’s a lot that goes into getting the gridiron ready before kickoff, especially if the field is shared between multiple teams. There are 13 NFL teams that still share their football stadiums, and this infographic from Equipsupply shows the behind-the-scenes of what it takes to prep football fields for game day.

Davis & Fed Cup Finals Preview: Immortality Awaits

There is nothing to compare with the passion and patriotism of team tennis. Grand slam events may come close, but in terms of atmosphere, the Davis and Fed Cups reach a higher level of national pride, where immortality awaits the winners. Who could forget the atmosphere in which Andy Murray triumphed last year in the decisive rubber to secure an historic Davis Cup title for Great Britain for the first time in 79 years?

Can Argentina Make Their own History?

Argentina have the opportunity to make their own lasting impression on the competition, and win the Davis Cup for the first time ever. They will certainly have a mountain to climb in the final up against Croatia, especially as the tie is being staged in Zagreb, which is expected to be a hostile atmosphere for the Argentinians.

Croatia won the Davis Cup back in 2005, but they will have to beat an Argentinian team currently ranked second in the world, and led by their talisman Juan Martin del Potro. An absolute colossus in their semi-final victory against Great Britain, he performed like an absolute titan in his singles victory against British ace, Andy Murray.

The Davis Cup final takes place in the Arena Zagreb Stadium from November 25th-27th. For the first time ever, Croatia are hosting the final, and with home advantage, the bookies have them as firm favourites at 4/7.

When it comes to sports betting strategy, punters clearly need to look for value. Here, that value seems to be in backing Argentina, at 11/8 with SunBets. They were victorious away from home in their semi-final and they can certainly repeat that feat again.

Can the Czech Juggernaut be Stopped?

Meanwhile the final of the premier women’s team event takes place on 12-13th November. The Fed Cup Final features the hosts France who take on hot favourites, the Czech Republic. The only case we can make for a French victory is that they are playing in front of what will surely be a supportive home crowd.

Will that be enough to stop the favourites? The confident Czechs are priced at just 2/9, with France at 11/4, and the Czech team is certainly an imposing one. They have strength in depth with an abundance of talent, and have won the Fed Cup four times within the past five years. This is also a team well accustomed to winning on foreign soil and facing partisan crowds.

The Czech team captain Petr Pala has named a strong line-up for the final in Strasbourg. Three of their players are currently in the top twenty of the women’s world rankings and the team are ranked first in the world by some considerable margin.

We’d be looking at an upset if France overcame the odds to win this tie. But before you rush to place your bets, one fact worth remembering is that the French team are ranked second in the world, so write them off at your own peril.

Taking up Skateboarding as a New Sport This Summer

For any sports fan looking to take up a new sport this summer, skateboarding is a fantastic option and a sport which is growing in popularity. It is particularly fun for those that consider themselves adrenaline junkies, but also for anyone that enjoys being outdoors. Unlike most other sports where you rely on others to play, with skateboarding you are only relying on yourself so you can go out anytime that you wish whether it is by yourself or with a group of friends.

In addition to this, you are not restricted by where you perform the sport either. With skateboarding, you can pretty much skate anywhere whether it in your driveway, in town or at your local skate park. It is essential that you are wary of those around you however, as well as for traffic whenever you are skating. There is plenty that you can do just on a stretch of concrete or on a hill, but for the best and most fun challenges you will want to visit a skate park.

Although some will be deterred by the potential injuries that you can suffer, as long as you invest in high quality pads and a helmet then you can ride with confidence. Whilst it may be difficult to begin with, it is also worth sticking with as you will not find a sport which is as rewarding as skateboarding. Whether you have mastered an Ollie, a kick-flip, traversed a ramp or even just learnt how to ride properly – you will get an immense feeling of satisfaction. This will boost your confidence and encourage you to practice more and more.

Getting Started

As with all sports, you will need to spend some money before you begin. This will include a skateboard complete with trucks, wheels and bearings, as well as a high quality helmet, elbow pad and knee pads. These are the essentials and when you have these you will be good to go. It is no secret that skateboarding is a particularly stylish sport, and there are all kinds of brilliant clothes and accessories for those that really take to it.

Another fantastic reason for starting skateboarding is the community aspect. Although it is not a team sport, skateboarders are generally very sociable and will always offer tips and guidance. This could see you make some new friends as well as pick up some handy advice for starting out this summer.

2016 Formula One Season

How the 2016 F1 World Championship Race is Panning Out

2016 Formula One Season

The 2016 Formula One Season has once again seen the Mercedes team dominate the opening rounds, with German Nico Rosberg winning four of the first five races. He has overtaken his team-mate Lewis Hamilton – the 2014 and 2015 World Champion – as the sport’s leading man.

Another boost for Rosberg has been his ability to finish races in front of the Englishman, despite only having two pole positions so far – one fewer than Hamilton. This season he seems to have a greater self-belief in his own driving ability. In previous seasons he has seemed to be almost submissive to his fellow Mercedes driver, but as the coming together at the Spanish Grand Prix showed, he is no longer willing to play second fiddle.

2016 F1 World Championship 2

That crash allowed 18-year-old Dutch driver Max Verstappen to win his maiden Grand Prix on May 15th – he is the youngest ever winner of a race. Despite this victory that shows his vast potential, he is probably a few years too young to show the required consistency to win the World Championship title.

The current top ten in the standings are:

  1. Nico Rosberg 100 points
  2. Kimi Raikkonen 61
  3. Lewis Hamilton 57
  4. Sebastian Vettel 48
  5. Daniel Ricciardo 48
  6. Max Verstappen 38
  7. Felipe Massa 36
  8. Valtteri Bottas 29
  9. Daniil Kvyat 22
  10. Romain Grosjean 22

With a title race that is likely to be the closest in years, and could go down to one of the last races of the season, more betting markets are opening for the 2016/17 season. Coral are offering numerous betting options for the current season, including on the Drivers’ Championship, Constructors’ Championship and the upcoming Monaco Grand Prix, which is taking place on 29th May.

According to Coral, the upcoming Monaco race sees both Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg unsurprisingly put as favourites – they are both 6/4 to be the race winner. Their nearest challenger is rated as Sebastian Vettel, the German who won four titles during his time at Red Bull. Now at the ever-improving Ferrari, he is at 9/1 to win the race on the Principality.

Looking forward, Rosberg is out ahead as clear favourite to win his first World Championship – he is rated at 4/6 to be named as champion by the final race, which is in Abu Dhabi on 27th November. Hamilton is quite rightly at 6/4 due to already being 39 points behind, mainly due to a number of reliability issues.

The Constructors’ title seems to be heading to one team only – Mercedes – as they are at 1/25, and if their cars finish a race they are inevitably both in a podium position, barring any errors. Last year the team won 703 points as Hamilton romped to the World Championship.

As this is the longest ever Formula 1 season, with 21 races altogether, it is looking like being one of the most entertaining title fights in recent years. Whilst it seems most likely that Mercedes will be the car that the eventual winner will be in, the identity of the driver is less clear. On current form, the new and improved Rosberg is the favourite, but Hamilton will not want to relinquish his titles easily and will certainly run him close.

Former Boxers Like Evander Holyfield and Online Gaming Companies

Online gaming companies really are becoming part of the broader world in more ways than one. They’re not allowing themselves to be niche activities that have armies of devoted fans that keep to themselves in isolated little communities, which is the case for so many other Internet activities these days. In today’s culture, it seems like it is very difficult for anything to become more than a highly niche interest. The television shows of today, as popular as some of them might be, are never going to be as popular as the shows that aired in the days where there were only three channels. Online gaming companies are competing with so many other forms of entertainment in order to secure audience members, and it makes sense for them to do everything that they can to go as mainstream as possible in a world where even the mainstream has practically become niche.

evander holyfield

Former Boxers like Evander Holyfield and online gaming companies are reaching something of an interesting alliance. Websites like Royal Vegas online casino are trying to become more established in the mainstream. They are doing a lot to reach out to the sports world in particular in their quest for mainstream exposure. They are partly doing this by sponsoring lots of different established and legitimate sports teams all over the world. They are also doing this by encouraging sports betting. Royal Vegas online casino offers a lot of different sports betting opportunities, complete with many different bonuses and welcome bonuses for people who are interested in signing up in the first place. Many Royal Vegas online casino games have a sports theme of some sort or another, which is only going to draw in more sports fans. However, the fact that people like Evander Holyfield have become the faces and spokespeople of online gaming companies really manages to speak volumes about the relationship between online gaming companies and professional sports today.

Former athletes are often in a very difficult position. Most of them have been training for a particular skill all of their lives. Lots of professional athletes start training in their teens. Their careers peak in their twenties, which is around when most other people are just starting their careers. Professional athletes tend to retire in their thirties, or in their forties at the very latest. Boxing has a tendency to be a sport that causes people to retire early. Their entire identity is built around a skill that they can no longer practice professionally anymore, which is going to be very difficult for a lot of professional athletes emotionally.

Many professional athletes struggle financially upon retirement. Some of them are lucky enough to get advertising deals, allowing them to stay famous for being in sports. Some of them have managed their money well enough that they really can enjoy decades of retirement when they’re still young. Other people are almost going to have to get started from scratch in new careers. Really, the professional athletes that are able to stay famous for being former athletes, usually through being advertising icons or through sharing their personal stories, could be considered some of the lucky ones in the field. These are the people who do not have to remove themselves from the professional world or start over entirely.

As such, it makes perfect sense that Royal Vegas online casino and websites like it would be the natural allies of former athletes. Former athletes can stay in the limelight and they can specifically stay in the limelight in a way that still feels natural to them. The casinos can benefit from their experiences in more ways than one.

Sports Facilities Every Top School Needs

When you’re trying to grab the attention of parents thinking about sending their child to your school you need all the help you can get. And good sports facilities can make all the difference.

In fact, stunning sports facilities can generate that wow-factor that elevates the entire university. Just think about what’s happened to Loughborough’s reputation, all thanks to its sporting excellence. Exam result league tables are exam result league tables. But nothing can quite compare to stunning parents with incredible facilities on your school open day.

Tennis Courts

Many parents are looking to send their child to a school where they can develop all their many talents. This includes, among other things their sporting prowess. Amazingly, a lot of schools neglect to install a simple tennis court on the school playground. This is an especially egregious omission, since many schools also offer tennis scholarships. Don’t miss out on attracting talented students to your school and boost demand for places.

Climbing Wall

A school with a good climbing wall can elevate itself above the competition. It’s something a little bit unusual.

It’s especially useful if you want to attract boarders. Incorporating activities like climbing into your weekend schedule makes boarding more palatable. This is because parents want to see their children active and engaged at weekends. A climbing wall is a great selling point.

Synthetic Pitch

Inter-school sports is now a massive cultural phenomenon. Having the appropriate facilities is important for maintaining sporting standards. But it’s also important for elevating the status of the school. Installing something like Multiturf Astro turf can make all the difference. This is especially true when it comes to the most popular school sports, hockey, netball and cricket.

Squash Courts

Top schools now offer squash courts as part of their sporting facilities, as do most top-notch gyms. Although squash might not be the most popular sport on the calendar, having the option to play squash will attract interest in the school.

Again, it’s something a little out of the ordinary. Prospective parents will leave with the impression that the school is wonderfully well equipped.

Swimming Pool

Swimming pools are good, not only for making swimming a part of the curriculum, but also generating revenue for the school. Facilities like swimming pools can be hired out at favourable rates during the holidays or at weekends. In fact, depending on the numbers you expect, you may be able to negotiate a better price. That money you generate can then be fed back into marketing the school, paying off loans or improving other facilities. Companies like UK Swimming Pools can handcraft bespoke pools for any most situations.

Fencing Salle

Fencing is one of those inspiring sports that generates a sense of amazement. It’s also a high-status pursuit, a bit like polo. If your school’s revenue depends on attracting wealthy parents, including a fencing salle can be a mark of exclusivity.

What’s more, because good fencing facilities are in general rare you’ll garner more attention for the school. Perhaps you could begin hosting fencing competitions of your own. Or, again, hire out your facilities to local clubs and societies.

Athletes, Supplements & Side Effects

Let’s get one thing straight. Amino acids are essential to our diets. They’re nutrients. They’re designed to help us maintain a healthy lifestyle. And yet, for some reason, they’ve been somewhat demonized. Thanks to the increased consumption of proteins, people are associating them with health concerns. And while there is indeed some truth in that consuming too much protein can be harmful, that doesn’t mean you can go without it.

The amount of protein you get in your diet should be relative to a lot of other factors, such as age and weight. There is no one size fits all answer here, no matter how hard people look for it. Every diet should be tailored to an individual specifically. Otherwise, you aren’t going to see as many benefits.

For many people, protein supplements are a helpful way of increasing your intake of essential amino acids. Not getting enough protein is just as much of a problem as consuming too much. Supplements, when combined with diet, allow people to find a common balance. Especially athletes, who are constantly burning high levels of energy and need to offset that loss.

Supplements can be invaluable, but they also have side effects. That, by no means, means they should be shunned, but you should take care, for sure. Here are some things you may need to look out for and adjust your intake accordingly.

Common Side Effects

The most common complaint when it comes to consuming too many essential amino acids. Although side effects are rare, they are possible if you take too many. All three of these – aches, pains, and nausea – are signs that you need to cut down. It is your body’s way of telling you that it isn’t okay with what you’re putting in it. Listen to your body. You know it better than anybody else.

There has also been a common link between beta-alanine and tingling. The performance enhancing supplement is known to be helpful, but the beta alanine tingling is common. Understanding why it’s causing such a reaction is important.

What to Watch Out For

These are all signs that the glucose levels in your blood are out of whack. This is most common during or in the immediate aftermath of surgery. As you can probably imagine, this is most common amongst athletes who have suffered from muscle injuries. It is important to get enough protein after muscle tears to help them rebuild. Some, however, try to overcompensate for muscle growth, and that can lead to the side effects.

It’s not just your age and body weight that you need to take into account when working out your protein consumption, either. You will need to seek medical advice on protein consumption if you’re a recovering alcoholic. You might also need to tailor your plan if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding. It’s also important to look at links between your supplements and any other medications you can be taking. The combined chemicals can have a negative effect on your body, which can result in these problems.

How Can Your Club Take Its Sporting Activities To The Next Level?

For many people, sport is everything. If you’re part of a club, then you’ll be constantly looking for ways to improve. It doesn’t matter if you’re an amateur outfit or semi-professional organisation. We all want to be better.

Finding ways to improve the quality of your team can feel daunting, but it doesn’t have to be. Changing facilities, routines, and mindsets are key ingredients to creating a better environment. Embrace these philosophies, and you won’t go far wrong. However, with so many options available, selecting the right one can be difficult.

Here are four fantastic ways that you can take your sports club to the next level. Employ them now, and you’ll soon see great results.

Beat The Weather

Is there anything more frustrating than hearing the words “training cancelled”? Unfortunately, the weather can be unpredictable, and this is a far too regular occurrence for teams that play outdoor sports.

Worse still, heavy rainfall could put the pitch out of action for days. This could be very damaging to your progress, especially if a big fixture is coming up. However, a sports field drainage system will battle back against that problem.

You might still have to train indoors on the days when it’s hammering it down. But the knowledge that you’ll be back outside ASAP should come as a huge comfort.

Watch The Pros

It sounds pretty obvious, but one of the best ways to improve your game is to learn from the pros. After all, they are performing at the level you wish you could be at.

Live sport is ubiquitous with modern life. If you download the right Apps, you can even keep track of things on the go. Immerse yourself with the sport and you should find yourself picking up some pretty solid tips along the way.

Alternatively, you could always hire a professional coach to teach you for a one-off session. Use their experience and your team should push on to the next level.

Team Building

Most sports clubs will enjoy nights out together to help build morale and let their hair down. However, rather than hitting the nearest bar, you could make this a vital step in your training.

Going away to complete team assault courses and other similar activities will give you a break from normal training. Meanwhile, it should be a great way of building strong relationships between different players and coaches.

Let’s face it, a weekend away with the team is always fun too. What more incentive could you need?

Up Your Online Game

Unless you’re a professional club of some size, you might feel that a website is pretty redundant. However, it could be a fantastic tool to help the club movement.

First and foremost, it’s a great way to keep the club organised. Everybody can find the necessary details about training and fixtures. Meanwhile, it might also help you gain support with small tasks like kit washing.

If nothing else, the advertising on your website could raise some extra funds. No club treasurer would turn that down.
