The Dubai World Cup: A Must-See Horse Racing Event

Horse racing is one of the oldest sports out there; it’s been around for centuries. And, as with all sports, it’s best when viewed live. Horse racing is especially good live because it’s a whole new experience compared to watching on TV. You get really close to the action, you notice things you wouldn’t if you were sat at home. You start to appreciate the sport a lot more and how hard it is for the jockeys and horses. Live horse racing is definitely something every sports fan should witness during their life.

Bearing that in mind, there are many horse races throughout the year and the world. Each of them is special in their own right, but it’s difficult for the average fan to attend all of them. So, if you had to only visit one, which one should it be? In my opinion, there’s no contest. It has to be the Dubai World Cup.

What makes the Dubai World Cup so special? Well, where do I begin! For starters, there’s a whopping $10million purse, making it the highest paid event on the calendar. As a result of this, you only get the world’s best competing, so you’re guaranteed to see amazing races. This year’s installment has already been and gone but have no fear it will be returning in March next year. Because it’s such a major event, the tickets tend to sell out quickly, so you need to get yours as soon as possible! Visit for ticket info, and package deals for this event. The sooner you book, the cheaper it is and you’ll be halfway to seeing the world’s best in horse racing.

The amazing field isn’t the only thing that makes this event special. There’s the scenery and Dubai lifestyle too. The race course is incredibly high tech, it has excellent viewing platforms and nearby hotels with IMAX cinemas. By going to this event, you get to witness the unique culture of one of the world’s most modern cities. Plus, there’s the added benefit of the awesome weather, so you can make a real holiday out of your trip!

And then there’s the crowd, I’ve never seen anything like it at a horse race before. A 60,000 sellout crowd all cheering for their favourite horses, the noise is deafening. You don’t feel like you’re at a racing event; it feels more like a concert! It’s a definite change from the more traditional races on the calendar – but in a good way! Also, you don’t sacrifice class for entertainment; it still remains a very respectable event.

If you’re a racing fan looking to save up and go to an event, I’d recommend this one. It’s a once in a lifetime experience in one of the hottest tourist venues in the world. You can watch the stars of the sport and relax in one of the various 5-star hotels near the course. There’s never a boring race in Dubai; it’s one of the most exciting venues in horse racing.

The Royal Ascot Horse Racing Event

Even if you know next to nothing about horse racing, there are some a few events and races that you have almost certainly heard of. One of them is the world famous Royal Ascot race meeting held every year. This is a highlight of the sporting year and something well worth looking out for.

The History

How long has this horse racing event been part of the annual calendar? The answer is that it has been around for an incredibly long time. In fact the Royal Ascot race meeting can be traced all the way back to 1711. In this year it was started up by Queen Anne and it has retained a strong Royal connection ever since then. The Royals who attend this attend usually arrive in a horse-drawn carriage, as part of a Royal procession to kick off the event. The 2015 event is scheduled to run from Tuesday the 16th of June through to Saturday the 20th of the same month.

How to Attend

It is possible to go to this horse event even if you aren’t a member of the monarchy. However, getting into the highly sought after Royal Enclosure is a tricky business. As the name suggests this is where the visiting Royals watch the action from. If you want to get in there you need to apply for membership and be supported by someone who has been going there for at least the last 4 years. During Royal Ascot week more than 300,000 visitors attend, making it one of the best attended horse racing events around.

The Dress Code

Of course, the dress code and the clothes worn at Royal Ascot are almost as famous as the races themselves. Women need to wear a day dress and hat. There are strict rules in place about the style and length of the dresses they can wear. They also need to avoid showing bare midriffs. As for the men, they need to turn up wearing black or grey morning dress with a top hat. For many people, a large part of the appeal of this event is the socialising aspect.  It is also seen as a chance to show off new fashion trends and look good in front of a huge global audience.

The Races

While it may sometimes seem as though the dress code and the Royal presence are the most important things here, the races are equally exciting. There are 16 different races held over the 5 days. Perhaps the most famous of them all is the Gold Cup, which takes place on Ladies’ Day on the Thursday. Currently, it is Britain’s most valuable race meeting, with over £5.5 million in prize money up for grabs.

Following it from Home

You can also choose to follow the Royal Meeting at Ascot from home and bet if you prefer. This can be done on the TV or by following the action on a mobile device. This means that you can enjoy the action even if you don’t get a Royal invitation and don’t own any hats.
