Taking a short break in my little happy dances around the house after the thrilling comeback by the Yankees in Game One of the ALCS to beat the Rangers 6-5, I had an odd thought cross my mind. The Yankees have a quality this postseason, like they have had in twenty-seven seasons past, to come through when they need to and pull of an amazing comeback, stop a rally, and seal fates in the hands of their players. I thought for a moment, on what makes this team special, is it fate, destiny, luck, or just the looming presence of pinstripes on the diamond.
I am not saying the Yankees will win it all, no I think the Phillies have that in their future, but what gives a team its unique edge? What forces the ball to take a hop, a light to give off a certain glare, or the dirt to slow the ball just enough to allow a bunt hit?
Anyways, if you missed this game--whether for work or life or school--you missed a thriller and if you are an mlb.tv subscriber, I suggest watching what you can, or look for a recap of the highlights.
I will admit, I was a little worried after CC allowed his fifth run, but I attribute that to his overly rested body, he is just a personality that relies on timing and routine. Joba and Dustin came from the bullpen to stop the bleeding and allow the Yanks to rally. They are the heroes of the game, but unlike the TBS announcers, I think that they will get the credit they deserve, especially in the form of one Mr. Chamberlain who did not throw one pitch in the ALDS.
I still think the Rangers have a few wins in them, but after such a crushing loss, manager Ron Washington may have to mix up his bullpen or hope that his starters learn to channel the energy of their owner, Nolan Ryan. Game two should be exciting, so tomorrow look to Arlington for your daily entertainment. First pitch is just after 4 pm EST when Hughes faces off against Lewis.
