Bangladesh lose by 180, consider organising fishing trip for entire Aus team

The absence of Ricky Ponting, Matthew Hayden, Brett Lee and Andrew Symonds (the latter as a result of a fishing trip that coincided with a team meeting) did little to help Bangladesh in the first ODI against Australia on Saturday.

Despite predictions that this may be their best chance to be competitive against Australia, Bangladesh stumbled to a miserable total of 71 all out. Cameron White, who previously couldn't even buy an international wicket on eBay, finished with the best return of the Australian bowlers, mopping up the tail to take 3/5.

Earlier for the Australians, Shaun Marsh and Michael Hussey both scored half-centuries to boost the Australian total well over 200 on a pitch that offered some assistance to the bowlers.
The Bangladeshi bowlers had plenty of opportunities to take wickets - 300 of them to be precise - but simply couldn't capitalise on their early chances. Once settled, Hussey and Marsh then made the pitch look positively placid and proceeded to take the game away from Bangladesh.

In the absence of Lee, Mitchell Johnson stepped up to lead the pace attack, making the most of the assistance from the pitch. In fact, one former player was overheard commenting that he had not seen a bowler receive that much assistance since the retirement of 'John the bookie' and the end of the '$100 pitch and weather special'.

In other news from this series, the NSW fringe player, Moises Henriques, has been called up to join the Australian squad for the two remaining games. Henriques has impressed in recent outings for the AIS and the Australian emerging players team, although Hohns was quite adamant that he will not be considered for selection except in extremely exceptional circumstances (read: the Milo have-a-go kids who come on in the lunch break have more chance of playing than he does)

Poor Moises! Hasn't spent enough time in "the Shire" for selection, eh?

His time as Australian captain won't be far off. After all. he has the prerequisite attributes: he plays for NSW
