Symonds to miss SA tour

February 3rd 2009 23:05
In another blow to his continuing efforts to smash David Boon's longstanding Australian Test team drinking records, Andrew Symonds has been left out of the upcoming tour of South Africa, due to his personal problems.

c'mon Roy, does this really look like Brendon McCullum to you?

When Sports and All spoke to Symonds about the issue, he was tight-lipped at first, but after a dozen cans he proved quite willing to talk, once he'd established we weren't a front for Roy & H.G.

"Can you believe the irony", he growled. "It was not so long ago that you couldn't get into the Australian team unless you had a history of alcohol abuse, now they want you to drink cordial in the rooms after a match. Jesus Christ, anyone would think this was the bloody women's team or something!"

And in fact, Symonds did have a point as we had at first been slightly confused when we turned up to find him wearing one of Kellie Hayden's dresses. Upon questioning him about this incident, Symonds merely shrugged his shoulders and said it was part and parcel of elite sport to have a crack at your mate's missus. "Wayne Carey wasn't called the King for nothing! After all, the King is always the one with the most birds, that's why he's the king in the first place!"

This was logic we simply couldn't argue with, so we wished him good luck, shared another six pack for the road and went off to find James Sutherland to plead the case for this most understood sportsman.
